简介/INTRODUCTION
Prof. Shan is a professor of Civil Engineering and Affiliate of Environmental and Ecological Engineering in Purdue University. His research field involves many aspects, including space mapping, GIS imagery integration, feature extraction, and spatial data mining. He has received a grant from NASA. His team will be working on Mars topographic mapping using orbital imagery and laser ranging, and the calibration of the instruments aboard. He served as Dean of School of Remote Sensing and Information Engineering, Wuhan University. He won the fund of National One Thousand Talent Program. He served as Co-Chair of Workshop of Pattern Recognition in Reomte Sensing of Remote sensing Committee of ISPRS. He is on the editorial board of Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (USA) from 2002, associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, Photogrammetric Engineering and Remote Sensing from 2008, assistant editor of American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing from 2008. He was a invited referee for international journal (more than 20), including Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing, Geomatics, Geographic Information Science, the Computer Vision, Optics, Sensor, Geophysical Research, IEEE Transactions etc. From 2001 to 2005, he participated in many research projects, such as Antarctic Topographic Feature Extraction and its Assessment from Laser Ranging Data of U.S Geological Survey, Multiple Tier and Multiple Resolution Spatial Database for Internet Geographic Information Systems of Purdue Research Foundation, Photogrammetric Principle for Lenticular Autostereoscopic Display of National Imagery and Mapping Agency, Non-Destructive Estimation of Pavement Thickness, Structure Number, and Subgrade Resilience along INDOT Highways of JTRP, Modern Technologies for Design Data Collection of JTRP, MOLA-Supported Precision Geospatial Processing of MOC Images: Models, Algorithms and Evaluation of NASA, respectively. In 1990-1993, he won the Best Paper Prize of Chinese Society for China Survey and Mapping, the Prize for Scientific and Technological Advancement of State Bureau of China Surveying and Mapping, and the Prize for Outstanding Young Scholars of Association of Science and Technology of Henan Province of China. He won 2 Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany.
