Central South University Hosts the Second International Symposium on Perception, Cognition, and Prediction of Geological Disasters

Geosciences and Info-Physics (SGIP) and the Laboratory for Perception, Cognition, and Prediction of Geological Disasters (PCPGD Lab) at CSU. Co-organizers included Beijing Normal University, the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research (IGSNRR) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, the University of the Punjab (Pakistan), the National Space Science Center of CAS, the International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology (IKCEST) under the auspices of UNESCO, and the Working Group IV/III of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS).

The symposium brought together over 130 experts and scholars from various countries and regions, including China (Mainland, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan), the United States, the United Kingdom, Norway, Canada, Nepal, and Pakistan, to discuss cutting-edge advancements in geological disaster research.

The event featured 13 keynote speeches and 121 invited presentations, showcasing the latest progress in disaster perception, cognition, and prediction worldwide.

On the morning of October 25th, the opening ceremony was chaired by Prof. Hu Jun, Vice Dean of SGIP. Prof. Li Jingsheng, Deputy Secretary of the CSU Party Committee, delivered a welcome speech, extending a warm welcome to all attendees. Mr. Guo Ming, Project Director of the Department of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, and Ms. Faduma Ali, an official from UNESCO, also delivered congratulatory remarks.Prof. Wu Lixin, Chair of the symposium, Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, and professor at CSU, delivered an opening speech, expressing gratitude to the participants and introducing the symposium’s objectives. The plenary sessions were chaired by Prof. Li Zhiwei, Dean of SGIP, and Prof. Wang Juanle from CAS. Distinguished speakers included:Mr. Meen B. Poudyal Chhetri, Former Director of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), Nepal Ms. Faduma Ali, UNESCO Official Dr. Xu Chong, Director of the Geological Disaster Research Center at the National Institute of Natural Hazards, Ministry of Emergency Management of China Prof. Huang Bo, Deputy Director of the Urban Systems Institute, The University of Hong Kong Dr. Liu Donglie, High-Level Scientific Leader at the Ministry of Natural Resources of China

The symposium aimed to enhance international collaboration in disaster research, focusing on:Earthquake precursor perception and mechanism cognition ,Landslide investigation and susceptibility mapping,Flood monitoring and risk assessment Multi-modal data fusion for natural disaster perception Heterogeneous data-based disaster loss evaluation,International cooperation in disaster risk reduction and best practices,Wildfire and volcano remote sensing,InSAR-based early warning and monitoring of geological hazards,Earth system coupling and synergistic disaster observation,Rapid extraction of disaster elements,Glacier instability perception and cognition,Satellite tasking and emergency observation,Crowdsourced disaster data collection, evaluation, and application.

The symposium recognized 13 Young Innovation Award winners and 10 Best Presentation Award recipients.

This event provided a high-level platform for global experts, disaster management agencies, and research institutions to exchange cutting-edge technologies, showcase practical applications, and discuss development strategies. It significantly contributed to advancing disaster perception, cognition, and prediction research, promoting the application of remote sensing and geospatial information in natural disaster preparedness, mitigation, and emergency response.

10月25日-27日,由中南大学主办,中南大学地球科学与信息物理学院和中南大学地灾感知认知与预知实验室承办,北京师范大学、中国科学院地理科学与资源研究所、电子科技大学、巴基斯坦旁遮普大学、中国科学院国家空间科学中心、联合国教科文组织国际工程科技知识中心和国际摄影测量和遥感学会(WG-IV/III)共同协办的第二届地灾感知认知预知国际研讨会在长沙召开,来自中国(包括港澳台)、美国、英国、挪威、加拿大、尼泊尔、巴基斯坦等国家和地区的130余位相关领域专家和学者参加了本次会议。

本次会议共组织了13个大会主题报告,121个邀请报告,展示了国内外地灾感知认知预知研究领域的前沿进展。

25日上午,中南大学地信院胡俊副院长主持开幕式,中南大学党委副书记李景升研究员首先致辞,向莅临大会的海内外嘉宾表示热烈欢迎。科技部国际合作司项目主管郭明和联合国教科文组织干事Faduma Ali先后致辞,向此次研讨会召开表示祝贺。本次国际研讨会主席,国际欧亚科学院院士,中南大学吴立新教授致欢迎辞,对各位来宾的到来表示衷心的感谢,并介绍了此次研讨会召开的背景和意义。中南大学地信院院长李志伟教授、中国科学院王卷乐教授分别主持两段大会报告,尼泊尔灾害管理中心前主任Meen B Poudyal Chherti、联合国教科文组织干事Faduma Ali、中国应急管理部国家自然灾害防治研究院地质灾害研究中心主任许冲研究员、香港大学城市系统研究所副所长黄波教授、自然资源部高层次科技领军人才刘东烈研究员出席开幕式并做报告。

会议旨在加强地灾研究领域的国内外学者之间的交流,围绕“地灾感知认知预知”主题,以学术交流为主要目的,共同分享和交流地震前兆感知与机制认知、滑坡调查与易发性制图、洪水监测与风险评估、自然灾害感知的多模态数据融合、基于异构数据的灾害损失评估、灾害风险减少与最佳实践的国际合作、野火与火山遥感、InSAR监测预警地质灾害、InSAR在地质灾害监测与预防中的应用、地球系统耦合与灾害的协同观测、灾害要素的快速提取、冰川不稳定性的感知与认知、卫星调度与应急观测、灾害的众包数据收集/评估/整合与应用等领域的研究进展,进一步加强国内外合作研究,推进地灾感知认知预知领域的研究进程,并促进遥感和地理信息在自然灾害准备、减轻和应急响应中的应用。本次会议评选出青年创新奖13人和最佳报告奖10人。会议的成功举办为来自世界各地和我国各级地灾应急机构及相关科研院所的专家学者搭建了前沿技术交流、业务工作展示和发展战略研讨平台,对我国地灾感知、认知与预知的研究发展起到了积极的促进作用。

本次会议评选出青年创新奖13人和最佳报告奖10人。会议的成功举办为来自世界各地和我国各级地灾应急机构及相关科研院所的专家学者搭建了前沿技术交流、业务工作展示和发展战略研讨平台,对我国地灾感知、认知与预知的研究发展起到了积极的促进作用。
