标题:Seven killed as heavy rain paralyses Karachi

时间:2025-8-19

正文:

At least seven people were killed in Karachi on Tuesday after heavy monsoon rains battered the city, flooding neighbourhoods, paralysing traffic and knocking out power, prompting the mayor to enforce a rain emergency.

Dark clouds covered the city by afternoon, followed by heavy showers with strong winds in areas including Surjani Town, Federal B Area, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Qayyumabad, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Malir, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Nazimabad, and New Karachi.

Rainwater quickly inundated major roads and residential streets, with severe flooding reported in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, where water entered homes and forced residents to shift valuables to higher ground. Key intersections such as Hasan Square, Nipa Chowrangi, Jail Chowrangi, Liaquatabad, Korangi, Karsaz and the Expressway also witnessed heavy waterlogging, bringing traffic to a near standstill.

Mayor declares rain emergency after seven killed in downpour

On the directives of Mayor Murtaza Wahab, a rain emergency has been enforced across Karachi, with all teams placed on high alert to respond to urban flooding, traffic disruptions, and other rain-related incidents.

Rescue officials said seven people lost their lives in rain-related accidents. According to Chhipa, a wall collapse near Aqsa Mosque in Orangi Towns Sector 11.5 killed an eight-year-old boy identified as Abdullah, son of Abbas. His body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

In Gulistan-e-Jauhars Block 12, four members of a family were killed and a child injured when a house wall gave way. The victims included Maryam, 4; Hamza, 3; and Samiya, 24, wife of Mubeen. Another man, around 28, also died, while a 10-year-old boy sustained injuries.

Separately, a health department employee, Muhammad Faizan, was injured when a parking shed collapsed at the Sindh Secretariat after a tree fell during the storm. Police said several people were trapped but escaped unhurt. Faizan sustained a head injury and was treated in hospital.Municipal officials warned that further downpours could aggravate flooding in low-lying areas as the city struggled with drainage and power breakdowns.

According to data from the Meteorological Department, Gulshan-e-Hadeed received the heaviest rainfall at 145mm, followed by the old area of Karachi Airport with 138mm, Keamari 137mm, Jinnah Terminal 135mm, University Road 132mm, and DHA Phase VII 121mm. PAF Faisal Base (Shahrah-e-Faisal) recorded 114mm.

Other parts of the city also witnessed significant downpours, including Surjani Town (111mm) and North Karachi (108mm). Korangi saw nearly 97mm, while Nazimabad logged 92mm.

Areas such as Orangi Town (66mm), Gulshan-e-Maymar (75mm), and PAF Masroor Base (75mm) also experienced heavy showers.

CM Sindh puts departments on high alert

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed all concerned departments to remain on high alert during the ongoing monsoon rains. He instructed rescue services and the administration to stay fully mobilised in view of heavy rainfall.

CM ordered strict monitoring of drains and the drainage system to prevent urban flooding, and directed the Karachi mayor to ensure machinery and staff remain active for the immediate disposal of rainwater.

The chief minister advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy downpours. He also directed district administrations, police, and municipal bodies to maintain coordination.

Traffic police have been ordered to stay alert at low-lying and busy locations and to provide full guidance to the public during rainfall.

He further urged people to stay away from electricity poles and weak infrastructure, and instructed that monitoring systems be strengthened to keep citizens informed about weather conditions.

Sharjeel Memon urges citizens to stay indoors

Sindhs senior minister Sharjeel Inam Memon appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary movement outdoors due to heavy monsoon rains across the city.

The publics lives and safety are the top priority. Citizens must not step out of their homes unnecessarily, Memon said in a statement, adding that rainfall was still ongoing in parts of the city. People should wait for the rain to stop, he urged.

Downpour chokes main city arteries

Heavy downpours also paralysed traffic across city, leaving commuters stranded for hours as key roads were inundated with rainwater.

Traffic came to a standstill on major arteries including Shahrah-e-Faisal, University Road and II Chundrigar Road, while long tailbacks were reported at Nagan Chowrangi, Hub River Road and Miran Naka. Vehicles broke down on submerged roads, adding to the gridlock.

Police said traffic flow remained slow on M.A. Jinnah Road, Liaquat Road, Capri Chowk, Gurumandir and adjoining areas. Bilawal Chowrangi on Khayaban-e-Saadi also faced heavy congestion.

DIG Pir Muhammad Shah said roads were partially blocked due to rain, but traffic was moving slowly. He added that mobile workshops had been deployed, while SPs, DSPs, SOs, SHOs and other officers were present on the roads to assist commuters.

Traffic Police urged commuters to avoid unnecessary travel, drive slowly, and maintain distance due to slippery conditions. Rescue teams and officers remained deployed across the city to manage flow. The Traffic Police helpline 1915 was made available for route guidance.

Power supply disrupted

Karachi's electricity system collapsed once again after heavy rainfall, with K-Electrics claims of stability proving hollow as more than 609 feeders tripped.

The power utilitys distribution system remained unstable as outages made life difficult for citizens across several areas. According to reports, feeder breakdowns were recorded in Baldia (68), Bin Qasim (52), Defence (50), Gulshan-e-Iqbal (46), Gulistan-e-Jauhar (62), Korangi (59), Orangi (82), Society (68), Surjani (57), Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, and Othal, Balochistan (17).

Restoration work could not begin immediately as K-Electrics technical teams were unable to secure ground clearance. In many areas, underground cable faults and waterlogged substations also disrupted supply.

Power outages were reported in FB Area, Liaquatabad, Shah Faisal, Gulbahar, Golimar, Khwaja Ajmer Nagri, Nusrat Bhutto Colony, PECHS, North Karachi, Yousuf Goth, New Karachi, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Bin Qasim, Surjani Town, North Nazimabad, Pils Colony, Orangi, Manghopir, Baldia, Metroville SITE, Landhi, Khokhrapar, Pak Colony, Moosa Colony, Gharibabad, Gadap, Kathore Goths, Yousuf Goth, Akhtar Colony, Manzoor Colony, Railway Colony, Qayyumabad, Bin Qasim, Othal, and Surjani.

K-Electric sources said electricity was deliberately cut in low-lying and kunda (illegal connection) areas as a precautionary measure.

SWABI:

Flash floods triggered by a powerful cloudburst and lightning struck the remote mountainous region of Gadoon-Amazai in Swabi district, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) early Monday, leaving at least 25 people dead and 35 others injured.

Entire villages were submerged as torrential waters swept away homes, livestock, and infrastructure, adding to the mounting toll of this year's devastating monsoon season. "A cloudburst in Swabi completely destroyed several houses," a district official told AFP.

According to locals, the sudden surge of gushing water destroyed dozens of houses in Dalori Bala, Sarkoi Payan, and Karnal Sher Kallay villages, burying families under mud and rubble. "At least 40 people are still missing," a local resident said.

Swabi Deputy Commissioner Nasrullah Khan confirmed that 20 people perished in Dalori Bala alone, with only 10 bodies recovered so far. In Sarkoi Payan, two women and their children were swept away, while in Karnal Sher Kallay, a young man drowned in floodwaters.

Elsewhere, landslides buried vehicles in Bada village, and several roofs collapsed in Kolagar. The causeway linking Topi with Marghuz and Zaida was swept away, while electricity pylons and mobile communication networks crumbled under the force of the rains.

Two Pakistan Army helicopters were dispatched to airlift survivors, while Rescue 1122 teams from Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, and Haripur joined operations. Tayyab Abdullah, director general of Rescue 1122, reached Swabi to personally supervise the mission, deploying more than 90 personnel, 13 ambulances, disaster vehicles, water units, and specialised equipment.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that the overall monsoon death toll in K-P had reached 341, including 222 in Buner district alone. At least 178 others were injured, and 420 houses damaged.

Across the province, torrential rains triggered more flooding and landslides that swept away entire settlements. Relief work was hampered by continuous rains, with fresh spells threatening more flash floods in the coming days.

Buner, the hardest hit district, saw 12 villages wiped out last week. "This morning fresh rains forced a halt to relief operations," said volunteer Nisar Ahmad, 31, who has been digging through rubble to retrieve bodies.

He added that 219 corpses had already been recovered. "Dozens more are still buried under mud and rocks, and can only be recovered with heavy machinery. But the makeshift tracks we built to access the villages have once again been washed away."

Other affected districts include Swat, Bajaur, Mansehra, Shangla, Lower Dir, Battagram, and surrounding areas, PDMA said. "These extreme weather events have severely impacted communities, leaving many displaced and in urgent need of assistance," a PDMA official said.

Meanwhile, a stormy downpour resulted in the collapse of a roof in the Pabbi Choky Mamrez area in Nowshera district, claiming the lives of a couple. In Lower Dir, continuous rainfall has caused streams and drains to overflow, significantly raising the water level of the Panjkora River.

Fear and desperation gripped survivors. Ghulam Hussain, 35, a resident of Buner, recalled: "Even if it rains a little now, we feel scared. That day, it started with light rain and then people were suddenly swept away." Food and water shortages have emerged as a serious concern.

"Many livestock have also perished in the cloudburst, and their decomposing bodies are spreading a foul odour," volunteer Ahmad warned. "Right now, our most urgent need is clean drinking water, and I appeal to the government to provide it."

On the directives of Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, the K-P government released Rs3 billion for relief and rehabilitation - half for immediate assistance and half for repair of roads and communication networks.

Authorities also dispatched 89 truckloads of tents, bedding, mosquito nets, food, and essentials. Mobile hospitals, dewatering pumps, and emergency camps were set up, with more than 5,000 people rescued so far.

At a high-level meeting, the chief minister pledged that all available resources would be mobilised for immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation. "The provincial government will not abandon the people in this hour of need," he said.

Nationwide, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported that heavy monsoon rains have killed over 650 people and injured more than 920 since June. Preliminary estimates put damages to public and private property at more than Rs126 million.

Tarbela near full

Meanwhile, the PDMA said the rain spell would continue until August 21. The latest weather advisory highlights that heavy rainfall is predicted for K-P's Peshawar, Swat, Hazara, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Chitral regions. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also expected in Punjab and Sindh it added.

Following continuous rainfall in K-P, Gilgit Baltistan (G-B) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), the water level in the dams is rising. The water level in Tarbela Dam surged to 1,547 feet, bringing it within just three feet of its maximum capacity, officials said.

For the third consecutive day, the dam's spillways remained open to manage the mounting pressure. According to the latest data, the inflow of water stands at 345,000 cusecs, while the outflow has reached 381,000 cusecs.

The Indus River at Tarbela is currently witnessing a medium-level flood situation, though authorities have warned that if the flood torrents gain further intensity, the water discharge could climb to 450,000 cusecs.

In anticipation of rising waters, officials have advised riverside communities to exercise caution, while a complete ban has been imposed on tourist visits to riverbanks to prevent mishaps. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as the monsoon rains persist.

时间:2025-8-19 15:41:00

正文:

At least 358 people died as a result of heavy flooding and downpour in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the last three days, while rehabilitation efforts are still underway as the province recovers from the record deluge, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority said on Tuesday.

Record rains in KP, which started on August 15, have wreaked havoc across the province. Last week, the provincial government declared an emergency as torrential rains ravaged homes, displaced families, and left a trail of destruction across Buner, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, and beyond.

According to the latest data from the KP PDMA, 358 people have died in rain-related incidents since August 15, with Buner reporting the highest toll at 225. Another 181 people were injured, while the dead included 287 men, 41 women and 30 children.

Buner was the worst-hit district in the province, where flash flooding and building collapses left 225 people dead, including 193 men, 23 women and nine children, according to the report. Another 120 people sustained injuries.

Following Buner, Shangla district reported 36 deaths from flash floods, while 22 fatalities were recorded in Mansehra, another 22 in Bajaur, and 20 in Swat, where both flash flooding and infrastructure damage claimed lives.

Flash flooding in the KPs Swabi district also left 17 dead, according to the PDMA.

Due to separate roof collapse incidents, five people died in Lower Dir, and another two people lost their lives in Noshewra.

Abbotabad, Torghar, and South Waziristan recorded one death each, the report noted.

According to the PDMA data, the total number of houses damaged throughout the province was 780, out of which 349 were completely destroyed and another 431 sustained partial damage. Buner suffered the most damage, leaving 162 houses destroyed.

The number of cattle that perished was 427.

It has been forecasted that the current cycle of rains to continue intermittently until August 21, KP PDMA Spokesperson Anwer Shahzad said in a statement.

He said the authority had directed district administrations to intensify relief activities and provide immediate assistance to the victims.

The public is advised to contact PDMAs helpline at 1700 in case of any emergency or weather update, Shahzad added.

Relief efforts underway

KPs Adviser to the Chief Minister, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, in a statement, detailed the relief efforts, saying rescue teams are fully engaged in flood-affected districts.

An amount of Rs3 billion has been released for the ongoing operations, he said, adding that around 6,000 personnel are currently deployed as part of the rescue efforts.

A total of 5,210 people have been safely evacuated, he added.

Additionally, Barrister Saif said a mobile application has been launched to issue financial compensation to the affected families.

One hundred and seventy-six (176) rescue centres have been established and at least 100 roads, previously severed due to floods, have now been cleared and restored, he said.

According to Barrister Saif, five army helicopters and one provincial helicopter were involved in the rescue efforts.

He detailed that the provincial government has delivered 89 trucks of relief items to the flood-hit districts, and more trucks are scheduled to be dispatched today.

He added that 2800 tents, 6100 mattresses, 2700 hygiene kits and 4300 kitchen sets have been distributed in the impacted areas. Additionally, 3100 tarpaulins, 7400 mosquito nets, 6800 blankets, and 500 gas cylinders were distributed.

Two hundred and eighty-nine (289) medical camps have been set up as well, he said.

Barrister Saif shared that around 822 cases of infectious diseases have been reported so far, for which people are receiving treatment at the medical relief camps.

Separately, in a bid to support the flood victims, the KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has decided to donate his one-month salary, cabinet ministers have donated their 15-day salary, while assembly members will donate their seven-day salary, Barrister Saif said.

Officers above grade 17 have donated their two-day salary, while government employees from grade 1 to 16 have donated one days salary to the flood victims.

Baltistan Highway reopened for traffic

Separately, the flood-ravaged Baltistan Highway was reopened for all kinds of traffic, according to Shahzad Baig, officer of the Gilgit Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA).

He said, The Baltistan Highway, which was blocked six days ago due to the bridge being washed away following severe flooding in the Istak Nullah, was restored with the joint efforts of the Pakistan Army and GBDMA.

A large number of mountaineers, tourists and passengers had been stranded due to the week-long closure of the highway, he added.

On Saturday, GB Home Minister Shams Lone [said][1] that the Baltistan Highway bridge had been swept away, cutting off four districts of Baltistan from Gilgit.

As soon as the highway was opened, oil tankers and trucks loaded with other necessities of life left for Skardu, Baig added.

A resident of Skardu, Qasim Butt, said that the closure of the highway caused a shortage of petrol and food items in the four districts, which worried the locals.

A day before the Istak Nullah, the Baltistan Highway was closed due to the Baghicha RCC bridge being washed away in the flood. However, traffic flow was maintained by creating an alternative route, he said, adding that the highway was now fully reopened.

22 killed in Balochistan since June 28

Balochistans PDMA reported that 22 people have been killed and nine injured in the province as a result of monsoon rain and flooding since June 28, including two killed and one injured in Harnai yesterday due to a roof collapse.

Flooding continues to afflict GB areas; govt says 39 people killed, 1,000 homes damaged since July

People, including foreign tourists, make a hazardous crossing after a flood swept away the bridge in Ghanche.Dawn

MUZAFFARABAD/GILGIT: At least five people were killed in Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Monday in different rain-related incidents as monsoon-induced floods ravaged multiple areas in the Ghizer district of Gilgit-Baltistan, blocking roads and destroying infrastructure.

In Neelum Valley, a vehicle with tourists on board skidded off the slippery road and plummeted almost 250 feet down the ravine. Three people were killed on the spot, while the fourth succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.

Neelum Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Ahmed Janjua said a Karachi-based couple along with their two-year-old daughter who survived the accident and a helper were coming back from Taobutt when they met the accident near Shundaas.

As a result, Zeeshan Shahid, 38, his wife Anmol Haroon, 32, driver Farooq, 35, and helper Atif died. The couple had travelled to Kel in their car but had rented the jeep for their trip to Taobutt. District Disaster Management Officer Akhtar Ayoub told Dawn that the couples funerals had been held and their bodies as well as the child and the car were being sent to Islamabad to be handed over to the family members, arriving there from Karachi.

University teacher swept away

In another incident, a faculty member at the University of Poonch, Dr Gul-i-Lala, 32, was swept away after she tried to cross a swollen stream in her Suzuki Cultus.

According to Registrar Dr Abdul Rauf, Dr Lala had left the Shamsabad campus after delivering a one-hour lecture in the morning and was heading home via Hajira Road.

Eyewitnesses said she was advised to turn back because a torrent was flowing across the road, whereupon she opted for an alternative route on the outskirts of Rawalakot. However, while attempting to cross a culvert where water from an otherwise small stream was rushing over the road, the accident occurred.

Her vehicle, swept away by the water, was retrieved about a hundred feet down the stream, but she did not survive.

Meanwhile, Poonch DC Sardar Umar Farooq told Dawn that rescue teams also evacuated 18 female students from a hostel whose ground floor had been submerged. Five residents trapped in their homes along Hajira Road were also rescued.

In the same district, three men collecting firewood in Karmal village of Rajdhani were stranded on a dry patch in the middle of River Poonch. However, they were rescued.

A flash flood in a water channel in Dhaman Pakhonar village of Sudhnoti district washed away four houses, two suspension bridges, and one RCC bridge, said Deputy Commissioner Mumtaz Kazmi. There were no casualties as the residents had already vacated their homes, but they were unable to save their belongings, he added. The DC said the road leading to the village had also been destroyed at several points, but machinery would be deployed to reopen it.

Flash floods in GB

As water shortages and electricity outages continued in Gilgit, Danyor, and other flood-hit areas, flash floods damaged infrastructure in Asumber, Hatoon, and Ishkoman valleys in Ghizer. According to the local administration, the Government Boys High School in Asumber was affected, while in Hatoon, the flood blocked the Ghizer River near the Hasis village. The flood damaged the Ishkoman Road at various places, while a house was affected in Dilnati Ponyal.

On the other hand, the increasing water level in the Ghizer River forced the residents living near its banks to move to safer areas.

The Ghizer-Chitral Road remained closed due to the flood in the Gulapur area. The residents and affected people in Daen village remained disconnected as the only bridge linking the area to the rest of the region was recently damaged. Similarly, the flood-affected areas in Ghizer, Ghanche, Skardu, Astore, Hunza and Diamer remained marooned.

The Karakoram Highway (KKH) in Gulmit-Gojal in Hunza was opened to traffic, as was the Hoper Valley road in Nagar. The traffic on the Baltistan Highway and Naltar Highway remained suspended, but people managed to cross the blocked roads in cases of emergency.

GB government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq said Ghizer was the most-affected district as the mountainous region faced one of the worst floods that had killed 39 people, including tourists, since July. These disasters have caused damage to the tune of Rs30 billion, he added.

At least two dozen people have been injured so far; 35 small and large bridges have been washed away; a dozen mosques and Jamaat Khanas have been damaged, and more than half a dozen buildings of educational institutions have been damaged, he said. About 350 houses were completely destroyed and at least 600 houses had sustained partial damage, he added.

SWABI: At least 17 people were killed on Monday in a heavy downpour that submerged houses, swept away people, and caused landslides in several parts of the Swabi district, besides claiming two lives in Nowshera district as well.

Swabi Deputy Commissioner Nasrullah Khan said 12 houses had been submerged in Dalori village due to a cloudburst while landslides also occurred in the hilly terrain of the district. He said that the downpour and landslides wreaked havoc in the Gadoon Amazai mountainous belt, adding that flash floods inundated several houses and swept away many people in the area.

The DC could not confirm the death toll due to information constraints, giving rise to conflicting figures.

Provincial Irrigation Minister Aqibullah Khan, who visited flood-hit Dalori, said over 20 people had been killed in the downpour and at least 33 people were still missing. However, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority said 13 people, including two in Nowshera, were killed and 20 were injured in the torrential rain. Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Faizi said 11 deaths were confirmed in Swabi, while, as per locals, 17 to 18 people were missing.

It seems the death toll is likely to balloon, as a large number of people remained missing by the time this report went to press. Since Friday, the rainfall has claimed at least 341 lives across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as per the official figure.

Amjad Gul, a local, said that many houses had collapsed due to the cloudburst. Nine bodies have been pulled out, while the rest were still under the rubble, he said. It is not an easy task to pull people out of the rubble in Dalori. There is a dire need for an excavator. It seems that many people have been buried under the rubble, he said.

The Met Department did not confirm if it was a cloudburst in Swabi, nor did it issue any statement about how much it rained in the district.

In another Sar Koi Payan, four people were killed after a house collapsed, burying nine members of a family. It was learned that the family had recently returned from Karachi and they were sitting in their newly built house, which suddenly collapsed in the rain. Local people pulled out the bodies from the debris and dispatched them to the Topi tehsil headquarters hospital.

Two Afghan refugees also lost their lives in a roof-collapse incident, while, in a separate incident, two people drowned in the floodwater of Karnal Sher Khan Kali nullah.

Due to the downpour, the rainwater entered houses in the district, forcing people to take refuge on the roofs and move to safer locations, while the inundation and landslides completely paralysed the routine life in the region.

Several vehicles were buried under debris due to mountain sliding in Bada village in the worst-hit Gadoon Amazai belt. The electricity system completely collapsed, crops were destroyed, and roads could no longer be used by people.

Precarious August

Separately, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider on Monday warned that monsoon conditions would remain precarious until the end of August, with normalisation expected by late September, state-run APP reported.

Speaking at a joint press briefing with Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Climate Change Minister Dr Musadik Malik, the NDMA chief stated that the ongoing monsoon spell was expected to subside by Friday. However, he warned that the country remained at risk of further torrential downpours, with two to three additional spells likely in the coming weeks. Last spells will be ended by September 10, he said, adding that the overall situation was expected to normalise by the end of September.

The NDMA chief revealed that the ongoing monsoon season had caused 670 deaths and over 1,000 injuries, with 80 to 90 individuals still missing. Search operations were underway, and if the missing are not found, they will be added to the official death toll, he added.

PM pledges support

On the other hand, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif pledged support to flood-hit areas, saying the federal cabinet would donate its one-month salary to aid the relief efforts. Presiding over a meeting to review ongoing relief efforts by the federal government in the flood-affected areas, he directed the federal institutions to intensify efforts to assist victims in various districts of KP.

In this hour of calamity, there is no federal or provincial government; we must ensure the assistance and rehabilitation of affected people, the PM said. He stressed that the federal government would also provide financial assistance to the victims under the Prime Ministers relief package.

It was informed that the federal government, provincial governments, Pakistan Army, and other institutions had established 456 relief camps and conducted 400 rescue operations so far.

According to the preliminary estimates, damages to public and private property exceeded around Rs126 million. The NDMA presented a report on the provision of rations, tents, medicines, medical teams, and other essentials, with the prime minister directing an increase in the quantity of relief items.

Efforts are being made at the national level to deal with the current situation and on the instructions of the prime minister, the NDMA is in touch with the provincial governments, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said.

According to Mr Tarar, several meetings were held at the National Command and Control Centre before the monsoon, in which representatives of all provincial governments participated.Data has been regularly provided by the NDMA to the relevant authorities through the early warning system, he claimed.

Unicef support

Unicef announced on Monday that it has already dispatched essential medicines to affected areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan and stands ready to scale up support to the governments coordinated response as needed to ensure the safety and well-being of children and families.

Unicef Representative in Pakistan, Pernille Ironside, in a statement, said that Unicef is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life and devastation caused by the recent flash floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost loved ones and to all communities affected by this disaster.
